"It's only words, and words are all I have, to take your heart away." —Bee Gees
I mistakenly read the novella first, then I searched for the expanded novel. The format of the story with the progress reports was excellent. But I felt that in the expansion there was too much focus on Charlie's romantic relationship. I also didn't really like the way Charlie separated his current genius self with the low-IQ Charlie he'd once been, as if they were both not the same person. I read the novel wanting more details about his family and his research after he became smart, and I got them, but in the end I thought the novella itself was enough (and possibly even better).
