The book is about six people who gather for six months to talk about the six Jane Austen novels. The twists and turns of the characters' lives mirror the novels' plots. At first I found it hard to get into the heads of the characters since the omniscient narrator switches points of views very quickly, but it gets better in the middle though, and funnier. I also thought it focuses on some characters more than others. Extra points however for the insightful Reader's Guide at the end of the book which provides synopses of and responses to Austen's novels (it really makes me want to grab all of the novels and read them). I also like the hilarious discussion questions 'penned' by the characters.
