"It's only words, and words are all I have, to take your heart away." —Bee Gees
This was quite a fun read for me. Set at a police precinct in 1920s New York, it's a mystery about how the bob-haired, modern, extravagant new typist Odalie captivated her plain, straitlaced co-worker Rose. A hefty dose of foreshadowing by a narrator with questionable reliability leads to a deliciously ambiguous ending in which not only one or two, but several interpretations are possible.
