"It's only words, and words are all I have, to take your heart away." —Bee Gees
This family drama is told in uncomplicated prose and yet is heartfelt and moving. It's a novel about regular people who make mistakes, who may get hurt by and hurt other people as well, however unintentionally. Some characters you initially sympathize with may seem off-putting later, or the other way around. They are imperfect and therefore very human. As the story spans four decades there is a lot of skipping in time and some things seem glossed over, but it still brings home the message about the power of compassion and forgiveness.
